The EMB 145 MP, previously called the P-99, is a member of Embraer’s successful family of ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) aircraft. Originally called EMB 145 MP/ASW (Maritime Patrol/Anti-Submarine Warfare), it is a state-of-the-art aircraft designed for maritime patrol missions, in addition to carrying out complex and demanding anti-submarine missions.
The aircraft was developed by taking the platform of the ERJ 145 as a basis and equipping it with radar and electro-optical sensors, communications surveillance equipment, and command and control consoles.
It has high levels of operational efficiency, mission performance and survivability, even in operational environments with the most adverse conditions. Its Advanced Mission System, based on an open architecture, allows the EMB 145 MP to be configured in accordance with the requirements of each air force. The hard points under the wings are able to carry external loads—not only weapons, but also special equipment.
Its commonality with other versions, such as the EMB 145 AEW&C and the EMB 145 MULTI INTEL, and the basic commonality of the platform with more than 900 regional airliners operating all over the world, provide high levels of availability and reliability.
The 2001 contract with the Mexican government specified a maritime patrol aircraft equipped with COMINT (Communications Intelligence) systems. The result was a version for maritime patrol and monitoring/surveillance of EEZs (Exclusive Economic Zones) and territorial waters.
