The Legacy 600, the first Embraer executive jet, was launched in July 2000. Experience in this market led the Company to develop new executive jet projects, initially called Embraer MSJ and MLJ.

The Embraer MSJ and Embraer MLJ were formally introduced on April 8, 2008. In May 2008, during a ceremony held at EBACE (European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition) in Geneva, Switzerland, the airplanes were renamed the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500, respectively, thus forming the Legacy family.

The new Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 airplanes would establish new paradigms in their categories by offering exceptional performance and low operating costs. The Legacy 450 is an executive jet aircraft with options for customized and sophisticated interior configuration; it offers unequalled comfort, high performance and low maintenance cost, as well as the best sound insulation in its class and the largest baggage compartment volume.
