The fourth aircraft of Embraer’s executive jet portfolio was announced in May 2006 during EBACE (European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition), in Switzerland.
By using the EMBRAER 190 as a platform, the Lineage 1000 offers plenty of internal space. The luxury cabin is divided into five distinct areas, which may also include up to three washrooms and a large baggage area, accessible in flight. Furthermore, the Lineage has double the range of the EMBRAER 190, since part of the original cargo space made room for the fuel tanks. The aircraft’s landing and takeoff performance is also excellent—a key feature in executive aviation, which often makes use of airports with short runways.
In view of these favorable features, in May 2008, the Lineage 1000, together with the Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 airplanes, won the IDEA/Brazil design award, the national version of the IDEA/USA award—one of the most prestigious design awards in the world. The deliberation was based on questions of sustainability and design excellence, including aesthetics and harmony of form, as well as innovation and benefits to users, customers, society and the environment.
In December 2008, the Lineage received the Type Certificate by both the ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency) and the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency), civil aviation agencies in Brazil and the European Union, respectively. In early 2009, it was awarded certification by the United States FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).
On May 27, 2009 the first Lineage 1000 was delivered to a client in the Middle East.
