The history of the unit in São José dos Campos is intertwined with the creation of Embraer itself. On January 2 1970, when the company got its activities underway, the operational and administrative buildings started being built on an area next to the campus of the Aerospace Technical Center - CTA. The main office building, located at Av. Brig. Faria Lima, was given number 2170 in reference to that important date.
Parallelly with the construction of the first Bandeirante aircraft, facilities and hangars started lining the area around the airstrip where the São José dos Campos Airport is located.
As Embraer's headquarters, the unit designs, manufactures, and provides after sales support to the commercial, corporate, and defense aircraft market.
